What These Tools Won't Do

Don't expect mocks to be the contract. A mock server lying about what the real API does is worse than no mock. Keep mocks in sync with the real API — preferably via OpenAPI spec or contract testing (WireMock, Pact).

Don't expect MSW to replace integration tests. Mocks at the network layer test your code's behavior given a fake response; they don't test the real API. Some integration tests must hit real APIs (in a sandbox / staging environment).

Don't expect Faker to produce realistic relational data. "User #5 owns Order #1042" with consistent foreign keys requires Snaplet or hand-rolled scripts. Faker generates rows; relational consistency is your problem.

Don't expect mock data to look real. Mockaroo's "John Smith / 123 Main St" gives away "this is a demo." For high-stakes demos use Snaplet or hand-curate.

Don't ship mocks to production. A common bug: MSW handlers shipped to prod intercept real API calls. Tree-shake or wrap in dev-only code.
